SHIPIBO & ANDEAN WORK · PERU

Kuripes
two tubes, one angle

The self applicator: two short tubes joined in a V, sized to the hand that holds it. The smallest thing we sell, and the one people choose most personally — almost always by the animal carved on it.

THE KURIPES

Carved hardwood, and bamboo left bare.

Our kuripes come from two places. The Shipibo ones are carved hardwood, painted and often beaded, with an animal worked into the joint. The Andean ones are bamboo — lighter, sometimes left plain so the grain and the node show, sometimes finished with a feather, a bead or a stone. It is the largest family we carry, and the one that turns over fastest.

Every piece on this page is one of one — when it is gone, it is gone. Tell us what you are looking for and we will write when the next ones land.

Some of these pieces are traditionally connected to ceremonial, artistic or ancestral practices. We buy them from the artisans who make them, we sell them as the objects they are, and we ask that they be treated with the same respect they were made with.

The Wizard Caravan does not claim to provide medical, psychological or spiritual treatment through any product sold. More in our FAQ.
